To all KRR Members:
To get the most out of the training sessions and ensure that they run safely there are a few pieces of information that you all need to be aware of.
Summer Sessions: Over the summer months (April to September) we meet twice during the week. On Tuesday evenings we meet at Kirkgate park at 7pm for speed training, except the first Tuesday of the month which meets at Lathro at 7pm for the 2mile time trial followed by hot chocolate. On a Wednesday evening we meet at Lathro at 6:45 for a trail run. These are generally around 5-6miles and we finish around 8pm. For further information on the exact route and time we will be meeting, please refer to the training schedule at the bottom of the page.
One of the club's level 2 coaches (Bill, Roger & Chris) will be in attendance but due to the popularity of these sessions and the increasing numbers of regulars they will generally have at least one other person helping them. Please let one of the coaches know if you are recovering from an injury or any health problems that may affect your ability to take part in the session. Please also let the coach know if you leave the session early for any reason so we know that you have not fallen by the way-side and we come looking for you!
Don't worry if you are new to the club, all of the runners stick together and we ensure no one is ever left behind.
Purpose of the sessions: The winter training schedule aims to develop strength, stamina, speed and style. Different sessions will focus on one or more of these aspects and a coach will explain the purpose of each session on the night. Overall distances run are generally much shorter than during the summer months and sessions tend to use repetition of short runs or drills with a short recovery period in between each. We usually split up into two or more groups to accommodate the range of ages and abilities and you should always feel free to move up or down a level if you feel you want to increase or lesson the impact of the session.
KGV Sessions: We sometimes find that we cannot use KGV as planned due to the state of the ground. On these occasions we will use an alternative 'on road' venue, such as Lathro Park or Argyle Road, to train. Because we often don't know until the Wednesday evening whether or not it is feasible to use the KGV this is likely to be a last minute change in venue. We suggest that those of you who prefer to wear your off-road shoes for the KGV sessions bring along a pair of road shoes on these nights as well. There will always be plenty of cars where you could leave your 'spare' pair to avoid having to run with them in your hands!
Clothing: We strongly urge you to invest in and wear some high visibility outer wear during the winter months and whilst we don't make it compulsory for club sessions we hope you will all comply in the interest of safety. I'm constantly amazed how many runners turn up dressed in black and think that the thin stripes of fluorescent piping down the sides of the legs or across the back of their tops is going to be enough to make them visible to car drivers on a dark winter evening. Bright green or yellow shows up considerably better than white and if you do not have a jacket or tabard in this colour you will find that your club vest does just as well.
Headphones: We know that some of you like to listen to music whilst you run and get inspiration from this. We would ask in the name of safety and politeness that you do not wear headphones or listen to music whilst you are out training with the club.
Please ask one of the club coaches if you want to know anything else. We also always welcome your feedback - What do/don't you like about the sessions? Is there anything we could do to improve them? We would like to hear from you now if you are willing to help the club coaches with the running of a session. No qualification or training is necessary for this and you might find that you learn from watching from the sidelines every now and again!
We look forward to meeting up with you over the winter months.
Some members also get together informally on Monday, Tuesday and Friday nights and on
Sunday mornings for additional social / training runs. Meet
at the venue at 7:00 pm or at 6:40 pm at the Leisure Centre to share transport
for non local training.
